Hi !
My problem is, when i place too many glasses [approximately 130] in my level and i build it, it crashes. I have tried 1.20, 1.30 patch, and also pure faction's RED, but the result was the same.
More precisely i can build the level, if i look elsewhere, but it crashes when i look at the glasses. I have tried this in other computers, and it was the same, so i don't think, my video driver doesn't work correctly.
Can anyone help ? Thanks !

are you talking about detail brushes with a transparent glass texture applied to it?

do you have all 130 detail brushes in the same room? (no portals in between them)
oh and could you put a screen shot of you level Properties and a screenshot of the crash maybe? (the error screen)

You can't have the glass panes touching eachother, or they merge together when rendering.

Well any map with that many detail faces in such a small area will perform horribly, however you may be able to stop the crashing by putting one or two gigantic vertical face portal brushes across the room.

Wow, it works with two portals. I put more of those glasses in the room, and crashes again, but if i put enough portal, it works again. But i guess it isn't the best solution...
By the way... What are the portals exactly doing ? I know, they 'stops' water... (= But what else ? Slices the level logically... ?
Anyway it performs wery well.
So... I can start build my dreams. (=
Thank you !
[Once i have found a more detailed help, but i can't find it now, anyone knows it ?]

I'd advise against making a map with that many detail faces, as it will perform absolutely horribly (that and a map like the one you posted never plays well). Try more traditional styles - hallways connecting larger rooms. Never, EVER build a map inside a gigantic box (in RED at least).
Portals break up the world. In simple terms, portals break the world into "chunks", and each chunk is only rendered when a portion of it is in view. Break your map up into few (or one) large chunk(s) and it will perform MUCH worse than a map that is portalled properly (ie. a large amount of small chunks).
FYI: RED refers to these "chunks" as "rooms."
If you haven't already, I'd suggest you check out our
Tutorials section.
I wish you luck in your mapping adventures, and if you need any more help please don't hesitate to ask.

So my idea with many glasses won't work...That's sad... I'll try it without glasses then.
Anyway, thank you !
Do you have any idea why are detail faces a problem, when there are so many ? Just a question.
Sorry for my english.

They're rendered differently, and all faces on the brush are rendered at all times.

And there is no other way to make glasses, correct ? I mean, you can brake it, and they are transparent.

Thanks !
I know this thread didn't cover this question, so i open a new thread if i must, but why are some stuff undestroyable ? For example i can't destroy an 'offchair', but i can a 'posh_chair'. How can i make 'offchair' destroyable ?
Sorry for my english.
