RF is a poor engine to start learning in 2016.
Note, this information is from a multiplayer perspective.
I've pushed the RF engine well past its supposed limits, but at the cost of the sacrificing GEO-mod capabilities. You can Fit 3018 Brush's (as counted in Groups Mode) in the level editor before your Level File becomes corrupted and unreadable. Consequently, in my latest level creation I have 3010 idk. As for faces and vertices, well the sky's the limit as far as I know. I've gone as far as 2x or 2.5x over the limits. However, you must Respect how much detail you put into a single room. Effective use of portals will ensure RF runs smoothly.
The other side of the coin is the object limit, its capped off at a hard 1024. Here's a neat list of things, that do and don't count towards of limit. As with all game engines, their are several techniques that can be used to stretch these resources as much as possible.

crack this map open if your interested in looking at what going past the limits looks like. Alas, this map is actually too big for its own good. I deleted a fair bit of Fluff and extra details to add the last few rooms. :/ Still looks good tho.
