HI everyone,

Before purchasing the game on steam I checked to see if there was still people playing the game online.

I want to setup a new dedicated server which will be available 24/7/365 (all the time).

Which file I need to use in order to setup a dedicated server :

Which file, in which order, how many map can the server handles?

Is there an anti-cheat protection?

Does the server support bots?

Can the dedicated server run on linux (using wine if needed)?

Is there a web console to manage the server remotely?

Which port need to be opened?

Regarding the client, the steam version is coming with the patch 1.21, is there any other patch that needs to be applied (like pure faction 3.0d)?

Please give me all the steps so that I can enjoy this game!

Thank you inadvance,

Best regards,

N3ST

Didn't you read the readme? It says if you require help to set up a server, you shouldn't be hosting one.

I was asking if there is any specific thing that needs be done in order to run an updated dds, I have seen unofficial patches for dds, as there are a lot of files I was just wondering whitch one need to be applied and in witch order.:8

Don't really need anymore servers and can almost guarantee nobody will play on it

Yes install pure faction, start pf launcher and look on server tab

Server can handle infinite maps

Having server on pure only will prevent anyone with tbl mods from spawning (and anyone without pf) but basically have only seen one tbl modder in over a year (you can see if someone is using tbl mods with red x to left of there name)

Yes you can run server on wine

No there are not any publicly available bots, me and a few others have bots

Ports are UDP 7755 (or whatever you set the server port to)

There are no patches that needs to be applied on a dedicated server?

Any anti-cheat system.

What about leap years? Will your server have any down time? We must know this.

It will stay up and running, it is not using a lot of ressources, and I have my own virtualization center.

So witch files I need to run the dedicated server and make it visible for the player?

Thank you in advance.

Which file I need to use in order to setup a dedicated server :
Dedicated servers are configured using a mixture of dedicated_server.txt and PF server config files. The easiest way to do all of this is through the server tab of the PFLauncher (included in Pure Faction's install).

Which file, in which order, how many map can the server handles?
While it's not technically infinite, the limit is very high. You're not very likely to ever hit it.

Is there an anti-cheat protection?
Some anti-cheat functionality is provided with Pure Faction. For a bit of added protection, you can use the Pure Only mode when configuring your dedicated server in PFLauncher. That option will only allow Pure Faction players to play in your server, but most players these days are running PF, so that's probably not an issue.

Does the server support bots?
No, not really. Some servers run custom made software to allow for bots, but it's pretty hacky, and not publicly available.

Can the dedicated server run on linux (using wine if needed)?
I don't have any first-hand experience doing it, but some others have had success.

Is there a web console to manage the server remotely?
No.

Which port need to be opened?
By default, the RF dedicated server listens on port 7755 UDP, but you can change that to use a different UDP port when configuring your dedicated server. No other ports are needed.

Regarding the client, the steam version is coming with the patch 1.21, is there any other patch that needs to be applied (like pure faction 3.0d)?
I'll leave the "needs to be applied" up to you to judge, but I'd highly recommend installing Pure Faction 3.0d (and I'm sure most other community members would as well).

Please give me all the steps so that I can enjoy this game!
Red Faction is a great game, but the community is definitely past its prime. The game has very few active players these days, so don't expect an active server. That being said, if you have some friends to play with, you can definitely have a good time. I'd highly recommend trying out some of the huge amount of community developed content (maps and mods) from the past 15 years. You can head over to our [Files] section for that.
