Wow. I literally had a dream about this game last night. I couldn't help myself to search up and see what was going on with this game. I played as a child in elementary and was my gateway to playing competitive games now.

This is so nostalgic but yet sad for me. Is ANYONE out there from the old days? The competitive scene.

This is <DT><STaB>. I remember the +PLuS+ crew, -DNR-, <DT>, EvE. I recall names of the greats engraved in my head. Phillip, Allan, CaRN, Nop, PxPx, TriX. I remember some of the europeans in the community had a huge impact. Is purefaction essentially the anti-cheat of RF? I remember that was a big problem. Ah.. I would love to hear from some people and reflect on the past.

A few people on this forum have been in the community for a while. Goober and Nick are admins here and they've been playing RF since forever. Philip comes on here from time to time.

I was always a huge noob years ago and during RF's early years I rarely ever got the chance to play against anyone good or of notoriety. During the time frame you are talking about I was probably in the ( E ) clan. I played as ( E ) HeaT, (I am not the DT heat).

As for the state of RF, it is a dead game. Zero players online is a common occurrence. It is extremely hard to get a public server default settings game (a game where the server isn't modded and there isn't any bots). Once every few years, someone organizes a 32 player RF rally. Here is a 5 minute video of one by Cyrus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPfkyuN1cmk

Pure Faction is an anti-cheat software by TrotSkie. It also fixes numerous bugs and makes the game playable on modern hardware. Pure Faction includes extra features like spectate mode.

That's amazing. I still remember my strats and flag routes/jukes like the back of my hand. I do remember the E clan, was that for elements? I was on the rail driver only squad for a few months when that scene was hot. I remember Phillip used to smoke my ass back when I couldn't even chew gum and walk straight lmao. I would absolutely love a reunion. I remember Trotskie, wow.

Hey man, nice to see folks from RF's history coming out of the woodwork once again.

I've been playing since '01, and I think I remember your name. I wasn't ever involved in the competitive community though (that's Nick & Philip's area), I've always been primarily a mapper. Depending on when you stopped playing, you might remember digi as well. Without digi, FactionFiles and PF definitely wouldn't even have come close to becoming what they have been and are today.

As heat said, yeah, the game's pretty dead these days. I don't know if there will ever be another rally, but I'd definitely participate if one were to happen.

Do you remember a mod maybe called Iron Sun? i recall the leader of <DT>, TriX, then renamed to QuiZ and some people had developed basically a whole new game with that. I never was too privy to the mod scene, but any deviation surrounding RF was fun for me. I'm 26 now and can't believe i was 11 years old or something when I started.

Yeah, I definitely remember Iron Sun Mod. We've got the latest version available on this site: [Link]

I enjoyed it back in the day. It's been quite a while since it had any amount of players, though.

Yeah I have been on this game forever. I got the demo in a free CD included in PC world mag and then bought the full game a year or 2 later.

I don't recall many of the clans as its been that long. I do remember Ninja which was one of the top players from a well known clan.

Also I recall Izzi , not sure what happen to her. There was Itch as well, few names come to mind.

What happen to No clan Frank?

Also who remembers swift games servers? They were big in Oz and had a few dedicated servers before the ISP "swiftel" which was bought out by "people telecom" which then swift games turned to PTGN(swift games) and then people telecom were bought out by M2 group in 08, then is when the servers were canned. M2 went defunct in 2016 anyway lol

I used to love CTF checkmate with full house and regularly get over 100 kills on 31.2K dialup. Ahh memories. Also swift had another CFT server for custom maps and they had football fun, that map was epic with 32 players as it was most nights back in 02-03

lol, thats a bit deep for a game, I don't think we needed those details.

I just played it to kill people and dig holes in maps with modded geomod, never made friends or met people from any game or even had it cross my mind to be honest. Sure I know of players but I only know of them by their player name and character skin.

People seem to remember me though I have noticed, even though I have no idea who most are.

I really wish this forum had attachment uploads. I have a few screenshots of the good old days with a ton of names on it which I don't recall 95% of them at all but some of you guys might remember.

You could use imgur, then use URL or IMG tags to post them here.

I think no clan frank plays on the redfaction.info server still which is on 1.2 and can only be seen if your game client loads the "default" tracker.

As for the AUS/NZ community, sometimes I played on a server called OzRF. I do remember Swift games servers, but I never regularly played there.

I am not in any of these, but here is a site I found from a old rf clan with some old RF screenshots, might interest the OP.

well I guess everyone does gaming for different reasons. For me its mostly purely high speed killing, I get great enjoyment out of it, much like why I love the older UT games and 2nd reasons I like this game and similar ones is seeing what I can do with the game physics and resources available. Huge fan of over kill type mods, were everything is just over done. RF and UT are probably the biggest in that respect. Massive destruction in both these games alone gives me endless years of entertainment, players or not.

That said, I certainly have no issues talking about my passions and who I am off the bat and I will say how I come across in games its very much what I am like in real life, according to most people, the "mainstream" people anyway I come across as bland and boring. But I see them the same, its because I am so vastly different to them as they are to me.

Yes that would be correct, I'm not much of a team player. I can be, but I much prefer to just do my own thing by myself.

I had a look at image upload sites, none I could find that do it like imageshack used to, all of them either don't let direct link or need to resister/pay. Seriously this is the first forum I have ever seen that doesn't have attachment uploads, seems rather primitive. Forums is how I locally host the pics to be displayed, 3rd party site always break forums as did PB on the other forum I'm on. Admin had to hack into PB and get all the member's albums and manually upload each of the few 1000s of pics. :x

imgur allows you to direct link without registering or paying.

Wow never thought i would hear from you Philip. Glad to hear your doing well. TriX/QuiZ and I caught up about 2 years ago on Facebook, we reminisced about everything quite a bit. Random thought.. Remember ub3r1337.com hahaha, that was like a gossip RF website. I remember Glenn (RAIN Macgyver) had a webpage setup with all the old frag movies and screenshots, I'm going to fire him a Facebook message to see if he can find those for reminiscing reasons.

Philip, it's crazy how far I've come, and I honestly remember coming home from school and you teaching me things like timing AMP pickups and the duration for them, and also how to use angles and situational awareness, I just simply couldn't grasp them at the time though. I now play Call of Duty on console in wagers and tournaments daily on UMG and GB (GameBattles) and other third party websites; I've got a couple grand earned. It's crazy to reflect and see how knowledgable I am now in comparison to the average player. I know exactly what you mean in-terms of teammates and the synergy of good friends being teammates. I can relate to all of that and being a 4vs4 Search and Destroy team (one death your done for the round), chemistry, strategy, play calls and knowing tendencies or picking up on things on-the-fly can go a long way for that clutch-up play call.

I remember the whole PluS crew, that story is crazy lol. I remember some of the the names shown in most of the screen shots. Random thought.. I remember the .txt files of IP lists that used to get sent around lmaooo cause people would smurf so often. Remember the Steroid clan? I think that you had started that Phil? The names were like: |=[Gamertag}-- I always thought that was the coolest clantag ever lmao.

I just watched a 2v2 fame on warlords, the guns weren't showing and it seemed to have an audio hit marker sound, is this on PF? If i buy the game on steam, maybe i can play? I honestly think I can put up a good fight lol. What are the chances i may find people to play against?

On a weekend you'll usually find a few people. Week days its dead as dead can be unfortunately.

X-mas time is grouse though, lots of people everyday over the holiday season, so I am looking forward to that.
